I have been trying to stick to the holsford diet since I read about it. It seemed simple enough and the logic behind it made sense. Basically, its thrust is to try to keep your blood sugar as stable as possible, to prevent sudden increases and dips so that your body’s metabolism or the fat/calorie burning mechanism works efficiently enough to burn the excess fat. Coffee and tea and any other caffeine source are also no-no’s since they also raise the blood sugar. In simple terms, you are to eat like a diabetic, to keep your blood sugar controlled.
I tried it early in November, and hard as it was, I was able to lose a couple of pounds. Although I am now having a hard time sticking to it, considering that we are a carbo-loading nation. Bread and rice and bananas are staples on our dining table. Waaah! Just this rainy morning , I had banana bread (could it be any worse?!) and coffee. I failed in my GL count miserably! I have had no coffee for some time now, but I just feel so groggy now that I needed something to perk me up.
I’d still recommend this diet though for those who have the time and resources to be creative and to make sure that the GL count of each meal does not exceed 10…I will really try to stick to it, especially with my family’s medical history of cancer and diabetes…
Next time I have the chance, I will blog about the basic premises of the Holsford Diet.
